Our Work

Program Goal

The goal of this program is to provide women exiting homelessness and in transitional living programs with an opportunity to rediscover themselves, realize their full potential, access economic opportunities, and receive support for them to thrive and lead a prosperous life.

Women often share that this program helped them re-establish relationships with their family and children, build a closer relationship within their faith and beliefs, maintain sobriety, and secure a safe and healthy living situation.

One-on-One Peer Support Services

Our clients receive one-on-one meetings with a peer support specialist who has a lived experience that is similar to theirs: experience with homelessness, domestic violence, alcohol or drug use, incarceration, and/or addiction. Each client interaction is centered on safety and trust and provides clients with an opportunity to share their goals, discuss their challenges around maintaining sobriety and identify bible verses that will provide encouragement and hope on their journey.

Complimentary Hair Services and Full Transformation

Clients receive hair treatments at a beautiful salon in Westlake Village to build their confidence and stand in dignity, culminating with a final transformation treatment of hair and makeup. Clients are invited to share a video testimony of their internal and external transformation.

Seminars

Seminars are typically held with a small group of women who are completing or nearing completion of a transitional living program. The seminar provides the women an opportunity to meet our Executive Director, Elena Rosas, and learn about her journey and connection to their experience. The seminar provides attendees with a safe space to share their personal stories, feel loved and empowered, realize they are not alone in their journey towards healing and recovery, and an opportunity to receive one-on-one peer support from HER Life Journey.

Ongoing Sisterhood of Support

Former and current clients are invited to participate in an ongoing sisterhood of support that includes daily group text and audio devotional messages led by a HER Life Journey peer support specialist, and a quarterly group breakfast providing clients with the opportunity to meet in person and provide ongoing support.

HER Story

Becky is an example of what is possible when committed to sobriety. Over the past two years, Becky has secured a full-time job, is renting her own place, signed up for beauty school, and most importantly, she regained custody of her three boys.
Michelle’s love for God is pushing her to make a difference in this world. She started a ministry within a homeless outreach program and is sharing the gospel with those she once ran the streets with.
Debbie is the ultimate success story. Through HLJ’s peer support, not only did Debbie rebuild her life and achieve her educational goals, but her daughter also began her journey towards sobriety and completely transformed her life too.
Ide’s love for Jesus, combined with her determined nature has set her on a new path to transform her life. Her commitment to sobriety has enabled her to secure a stable home, reunify with her daughter, receive promotions at work, and step into her natural leadership skills.
